We've Turned 40!!
Going back to 1979 with the 10th Birthday Show which was held at the Claygate Village Hall and presented by the school's founder, Jill Jackman. It has always been a tradition the the Stage School to celebrate its'momentus birthdays with big charity shows, and this year was no different !
In 1994 the schools previous principal Pamela Webb presented "Applause" the 15th Birthday Show which was held at the "Adrian Mann Theatre" in Ewell. The 21st show "One World" followed in the year 2000 and was held at the "Epsom Playhouse" and all profits were donated to Childline. Michelle was already a teacher at the school by then and performed in the 21st show. In 2004 we were back at Claygate Village Hall with Michelle who was now the school's principal. This show was called "Decades" and raised funds for a couple of charities, one being the Queen Elizabeth Foundation for disabled people. The 30th show and 35th birthday show "Lost 4 Words" were both performed back at the "Adrian Mann Theatre" and raised over £14,000.00 for the "Childrens Trust" based in Tadworth. One of the lovely things about our shows is we always try to get a celebrity to present the cheque to our chosen charity and we have been lucky enough to have Bonnie Langford, Ian Adams and Michaela Strachan (who was one of the schools pupils !) and most recently, Anita Harris.
Our latest celebration charity show was for our 40th Birthday and it took place in July 2010. Once again we returned to the "Adrian Mann Theatre" in Ewell. This theatre has become part of our tradition. The show was called "A Piece of Earth" and told a story of a group of mystery solvers, loosely based on the Scooby Doo characters, who travelled the world to find the stolen Chadsworth Logo.
As with all our fundraising shows, we chose "The Childrens Trust" again and were delighted to present them with a cheque for £4000.
We had a wonderful committee who included myself as Charman, Dawn Lacey and then parents Mandy Kandrettis, Sally Burns, Clare Jeffery, Emma Welch, Lynn Hunt, Carolyn Batley, Kate Hunt, Margarette Swift, Alex Day, Debbie Vick and Lydia Evans along with a wonderful group of mums on our sub-committee.
The teaching staff are already discussing the 45th Birthday show - so watch this space!!!!!!!!!!
